What We Know Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack
At least 16 individuals perished and more than 40 were hurt when attackers shot at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.
As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the death toll stands at 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were taken to hospital.
The deceased are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She described the events leading up to the attack, saying they had been standing together when the gunfire began. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement read.
One Child
A child who was taken to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He said he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
