The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the showrunner Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
