The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
